The McDuffie County Planning Commission provides courteous, accurate and efficient services for the benefit of McDuffie County and its citizens. We stirve to:
Emergency 911 Addressing The process of assigning addresses to all McDuffie County properties began in the early 1990s. The McDuffie County Planning Commission is the sole addressing agent for the unincorporated rural areas and select incorporated areas of Columbia County. This means all addresses in McDuffie County must be assigned or approved by this office. Physical addresses are attached to telephone records so that when 911 is dialed, a location is displayed for emergency services. Therefore, if the caller is unable to speak or give the dispatcher driving instructions, he or she can still be located. To keep people from having to remember two addresses -- a mailing address (route and box) and a physical address -- the Postal Service converted physical addressing for mail delivery as well. To obtain a physical address for your property in McDuffie County, contact: McDuffie County Planning Commission Information necessary to establish an address includes your name, the name of the property owner if different, the name of the road by which your property is primarily accessible, a recorded plat of the property and a tax map and parcel number if available. Other helpful information would be the distance from the nearest road intersection to the driveway of your property. (The distance can be measured by the odometer of your vehicle.) The address and/or owners name of adjoining properties. Your address numbers should be posted and visible from the road so that emergency service agencies can easily find you in case of an emergency. Posted numbers should be a minimum of three inches (3") in height. Please use the following instructions when posting your address number:
