  • Develop positive, constructive and professional relationships with all parties.
  • Inform and educate the public of rules and regulations in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner to promote voluntary compliance with the laws.
  • Acquire new technologies to implement and maintain a cost-effective and up-to-date informational system.
  • Educate, train, develop and retain the qualified office personnel necessary to achieve our goals and objectives.
  • Treat fellow employees with respect and dignity in order to foster a positive and friendly working environment.

Emergency 911 Addressing
Since the establishment of the Emergency 911 system, each structure was assigned a physical address in the rural portion of McDuffie county as well as within city limits for purpose of locating the structure in the event of an emergency.

The process of assigning addresses to all McDuffie County properties began in the early 1990s. The McDuffie County Planning Commission is the sole addressing agent for the unincorporated rural areas and select incorporated areas of Columbia County. This means all addresses in McDuffie County must be assigned or approved by this office.

Physical addresses are attached to telephone records so that when 911 is dialed, a location is displayed for emergency services. Therefore, if the caller is unable to speak or give the dispatcher driving instructions, he or she can still be located. To keep people from having to remember two addresses -- a mailing address (route and box) and a physical address -- the Postal Service converted physical addressing for mail delivery as well.

To obtain a physical address for your property in McDuffie County, contact:

McDuffie County Planning Commission
504 Railroad St.
Thomson, GA 30824
Telephone: (706) 595-5355

Information necessary to establish an address includes your name, the name of the property owner if different, the name of the road by which your property is primarily accessible, a recorded plat of the property and a tax map and parcel number if available.

Other helpful information would be the distance from the nearest road intersection to the driveway of your property. (The distance can be measured by the odometer of your vehicle.) The address and/or owners name of adjoining properties.

Your address numbers should be posted and visible from the road so that emergency service agencies can easily find you in case of an emergency. Posted numbers should be a minimum of three inches (3") in height.

Please use the following instructions when posting your address number:

  • Numbers should be mounted on your mailbox,
  • Sign may be mounted on either side of driveway entrance.
  • Numbers must be visible from public roadway.
  • Make sure no weeds or any other items block view of numbers.

Interactive GIS Mapping
The CSRA Regional Development Center's interactive GIS mapping Web site allows you to search, view, measure and print parcel maps, property information and other map layers.
