Clerk of Superior Court

The McDuffie County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office responsibilities include:

  • Management of criminal, civil, and juvenile court cases.
  • Management of real estate and personal property records of the county.
  • Administration of the Court Registry and other additional services required by law or performed as a courtesy to the citizens of the county.

The Court Case Management area includes the receiving, filing, storing, and retrieving of civil and criminal court records for Superior Court and Juvenile Court.  All records are open for inspection and copying except juvenile court records, adoption records, and any records sealed by Court Order.  This office provides support for the court through management of court records, attendance during court proceedings, and the issuing of juror summons, witness subpoenas, trial calendars, and notices.

The Real and Personal Property area is responsible for receiving, processing, indexing, and reproducing all records for land (real estate) and personal property bought, sold, or otherwise conveyed or encumbered in McDuffie County.  All real and personal property records are open for public inspection and copying.  Uniform Commercial Code, Real Estate Deed, Lien, Notary Public, Plat and PT-61 Indices can be found at www.gsccca.org/search.

The Administrative area is responsible for the management of the office and accounting for all funds paid into the court registry.  It also includes various other services and administrative responsibilities including:

  • Notary Public – Issues and approves applications for notaries public.
  • Passports – Serves as the only Passport Acceptance Agency in the county.
  • Military Discharge Records – Files and maintains military discharge papers.
  • Trade Name Registrations - Files and maintains trade name registrations in the county.
  • Partnerships – Files and maintains all partnership papers.
  • Attorney Bar Admissions – Files and records Bar Admissions.
  • Jury management – Maintains and manages jury pool information for the county, summons and notifies jurors when to report, administers excusals and deferrals, and manages juries during jury trial selection. 
  • Board of Equalization – Oversees the McDuffie County Board of Equalization including insuring Grand Jury makes Board Member appointments, insuring Board Members receive required training, scheduling and notifying parties of hearing dates, and mailing Board decisions as required by law.  The Clerk of Superior Court’s responsibilities are purely administrative and do not involve participation in the hearings and determinations of the Board.
